thank you for the warm welcome... yes mate the 1.5 conversion you read is mine, it's a work in progress that im hoping to finish before end of march but i'll have to see.it's recieved a mixed response it seems alot of people are against me fitting a 1.5...lol they seem to think it's a ludricus idea to fit an engine out off a 106.but ive recieved alot of private emails saying keep them informed how i go on and when it's done what the power and mpg is like as they too want something alittle better than 15mpg. im going to carry on regardless and see how it turns out, there is another vitara with a 1.5 diesel in and they said it's not the fastest 4x4 but very torquey, but the guy who wrote about it hasn't replied to my emails so i thought bugger it i'll do it and fully document it..... affraid

I'm tempted to do some research, its same engine in Nissan micra too. Just can't find anything anywhere about stud patterns or if box will bolt straight on and clutches etc.

most engines will fit in most cars it's just about adapting them to fit... or roughly translated hitting them with a big hammer.....lol the 1.5 tud engine into a vitara is only 5mm out on the fixing holes for the bell housing, the othey issue is the clutch.the engine mounts and everything else is just a welding job.. i managed to fit a 2.0ltr vauxhaul engine in a mini, now thats a tight fit...lol

when i fitted 31's on mine the 5th gear was crap, you had to thrash it in 4th then change into 5th and hope you didn't come to any hills.. im considering going to all terrain tyres in the standard size and using the 31's just for off roading.if you just simply put a bigger engine in all you do is put more stress on the diffs and gearbox and thats when it gets expensive to repair.. where abouts in wakey are you craven???

That's all true, my little 1.6 vitara keeps going and I was lucky to find a 14 year old car with only 40k on the clock and not 140k!

I'm in Crofton just outside of Wakey towards Pontey

diff ratio on yours should be 5.12 if its manual they changed to 4.8 in 97

there is no better ratio diffs as standard on vits as far as i know the only other options for lower gearing would be after market ring & pinion (expensive) or double transfer box using a sj transfer box or lobster box
